May 10th 2020: Round up of 2020 so far.. Rumours and news on Scream 5, and GhostFace figures

Well, here we are… almost halfway through 2020 already… and its been a funny (as in weird) time for us all with this worldwide pandemic causing nothing but trouble, but even before that we as GhostFace and Scream fans already had news about new merchandise on the way… and as time went on, we also got more small glimmers on info regarding Scream 5…

Firstly, its the newer NECA figure.. arriving later this year, ( JULY 2020 is stated on the NECA site) .. It was all the way back in 2011 we had NECA figures, we had the full plastic figures and also the half cloth, half plastic types, both with the Classic and Zombie masks in use, the figures were also featured in DVD-Blu ray box sets for the movies too..

The figures got mixed reviews by many fans, and lots didnt like the half plastic half cloth types, although they did end up being sought after, and even today you can find them on ebay at higher prices as fans now know thet are more rare, we also had a GhostFace Head Knocker, which was much more well recieved, and is the rarest to find now out of those released in 2011..

Now 2020 is here and we have another type coming…. Text from NECA website below…   Pictures are also from the NECA website..

Ghostface stands 8″ tall and is fully poseable, with a tailored robe, hood and sleeves modeled after the real life Ghostface costume. He features a screen-accurate sculpted mask, interchangeable hands, and comes complete with his signature knife.

Blister card packaging with removable protective clamshell and all new custom illustrated artwork.

Second… the LDD / Mezco Toys figure… announced early on this year, and looks to be a really nice sculpt on the mask, i was sent a few pictures of this with different backgrounds, the figure looked really good, it will be 10 inches and come in a ‘Window Box’ (Think of the very early horror headliners figure) and it will be that style of packaging … main plastic window on the front, not a blister pack.

You can Pre-Order it from the Big Bad Toy Store... Details from the LDD site here too… Pics below…  RELEASE ALSO SET FOR JULY 2020

Well, lastly (for now) we have the rumours that keep popping up about SCREAM 5…. Whilst there has been some response lately from Neve Campbell there hasnt been as much from David or Courteney or even Hayden Pannetierre.. Many people have stated they love to see Kirby back, and some even saying that she should be the main character now.. (Which isnt something i would want) , but the most recent thing from Neve is… below… Via RottenTomatoes…  From May 6th Article.

“We’re having conversations – I have been approached about it,” she told Rotten Tomatoes. “The timing’s a bit challenging because of COVID. You know, we only started the conversation maybe a month and a half ago, so it’s going to take some time to figure out how it’s all going to work out…. We’re negotiating, so we’ll see.”

It seems she has faith in filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, whose most recent film was the Certified Fresh Ready or Not.

“The two directors wrote me a very touching letter about Wes Craven and how he was such an inspiration to them and how they really want to honor him, and that meant a great, great deal to me. So we’ll see. Hopefully we can all see eye to eye on the project and find a way to make it.”

Campbell added: “I’m so grateful for these films… I love Sidney Prescott. It’s always fun for me to step back in her shoes, and it’s always fun for me to see the cast come back and make one of these films again and try to make another good one.”

While i do hope personally to see a Scream 5 in future, it has to be done right, the MASSIVE LOSS of Wes Craven may affect it too much, but as Neve stated the film makers are trying to honor him and do the right thing…  one thing i notice nowdays though, is that the slightest little thing that crops up on a SCREAM 5 and its all over the place!! Social media and website news has certainly changed since way back in 2010 and 2011 when me, and John Valeri (SCREAM FRANCHISE EXAMINER) and Rodrigo (HELLOSIDNEY.com) and ST.net (John Klyza) was about reporting about the filming of Scream 4, and seeing Wes and other cast take to twitter to post up info and pics, now i see a SLIGHT bit of info go online and already someone somewhere will have made a 10-15 minute video and stick it on YouTube at their earliest convinience..!!!!  Posting their speculations!! (And thats all they are) ….
And these are some things that aren’t even confirmed as of yet!! Hence why i don’t rush to get things posted about it !!!

At this time though, this COVID-19 virus is delaying EVERYTHING…  so while little glimmers of light do appear for SCREAM 5, DON’T be so hasty to go believing it just because of a YT video or RUMOUR that may be hold water 100% …

For now., stay safe!! and keep hydrated!! and stay healthy as much as you can!!

November 19th 2019: SCREAM rights bought up by SpyGlass – Regulars returning?

Hello again, for a while now we have been hearing of a possible reboot of SCREAM, mostly in the way that Blumhouse had an interest, yet nothing ever used to suffice after hearing that info, on social media there would always be a fan that thought he/she was sharing a link to an article that said fan thought nobody had seen, but we all had seen it!! It was now getting to be old news, and the main fact that we lost Wes seemed to make fans say ‘Leave it alone’.. which many agreed with..

Then we come to November 6th 2019..
Bloody-Disgusting add the EXCLUSIVE NEWS that SpyGlass are now resurrecting GhoistFace… (excerpt below)

While Craven had directed all four Scream films before his passing, various filmmakers would get behind the camera for a television series that ran for two seasons on MTV and a third on VH1.

All four films remained canon while the series would create its own mythology. It’s unclear if the next film will continue to be canonized within Craven’s universe or be a remake, but we are hearing that, as of this writing, Williamson is not writing the screenplay.

The fact that at this early stage Kevin Williamson doesn’t seem to have any involvement is a major thing for me personally, and while there were fallout’s between Williamson and Bob Weinstein during SCREAM 4, at least we still had some sort of contribution from Kevin, and apparently Wes was writing bits of the scripts too in between takes!! But at least Scream 4 was completed, albeit a bit stressful!

Then we come to a more recent date.. November 18th.. Rumors start that the original cast are set to return.. something that takes me way back in time to 2008/09 when the very early news articles were starting up about the trios return, and although they did end up doing so ill never forget one of Kevin Willamson’s tweets back then in early stages simply stating ‘She said she wont do it!…’ in relation to Neve Campbell at the time turning it down when first being asked to return…

Below i have another excerpt from Bleedingcool.com… in relation to the trios return again…

A new report states that while nothing is officially decided on (more labeled as rumor mill material) producers of the next Scream movie are actively interested in reviving the franchise with Neve CampbellCourtney Cox, and David Arquette. If true, this could mean that the response from fans has been something Spyglass is very aware of, and could potentially give us more hope for their take on the iconic horror film series.

Despite the fact that this is strictly a rumor, if there’s any substance it would mean we are one step closer to seeing the trio reunite for one more stab at the Scream franchise. What are your thoughts on Scream 5 bringing back our favorite survivors? Are you excited about a chance for more Sidney vs Ghostface?

While i have seen the mentioned articles here at the time of publication i haven’t rushed to publish it here, as its way too early for us fans to start getting just a little bit excited..
Like in 2008/09 it is just early rumors overall here, NOTHING is concrete evidence as of yet regarding the trios return, but IF a fifth film does come our way with original characters then i stand by my overall opinion all along i had regarding Scream 4 in regard to our regular trio!! Which was.. (Put them through hell if necessary, give them fights and scratches and bruises but DONT kill them).
I always said that for Scream 4 if we didn’t have 5 main people then there was no point, those wanted were Wes, Kevin, and the Trio, and thankfully we got it, even if Kevin did depart.. and with another film coming in future i say the same again, just with no Wes, for obvious reason…

June 19th 2016: Kevin Williamson refers to Scream 5..

kwscream5notneededwpIm going back in time a little here with referring to a news article back in January of this year.. but it seems a Scream 5 was more of a non starter for quite a while now, yet some fans seem to still hope for it.
Back in 2010 after Scream 4 was moving along nicely there was plenty of talk (also in 2008 too) about Kevin writing a new trilogy.. Sadly with Scream 4 not doing as hoped for by many of us at the box office we never got a Scream 5, and ended up with only a dodgy crappy TV series instead.. Which is typical really.. anyway..  Back in January (2016) Kevin spoke up again about his thoughts on it, and also briefly mentions Wes Craven too.. Kevin talked to the LATimes and spoke about many things, he also attended a Q&A at a screening celebrating the 20th anniversary of SCREAM… along with Matthew Lillard.

So, to all fans out there that continue to ask about ‘Scream 5’… we now know the answer… it seems likely that this one wont ever happen, yes it was the same with Scream 4… but with the original plans of a new trilogy squashed sometime ago now, and the recent loss of Mr Craven.. we have to say .. Why? .. because Wes and Kevin were two very important elements in the genius mesh that made these films go so well in their structure and production.. Kevin wasn’t as involved as we would have hoped with Scream 4, and i think it shows in the final movie too, just as we did with Scream 3 back in 1999/2000. Where as SCREAM 1 & 2 were more High quality because they were both fully involved in the creative process.

The FULL article can be read by clicking the banner above..

“I know I don’t lean into it or seek it out the way I used to,” he says.

Craven died August 2015 of brain cancer.

“That hit hard,” says Williamson. “You think of your own mortality and your own life. He was such a generous, sweet man, and it all began with him. He was so graceful and generous with me, the way he let me in, in a way in which other directors have never let me in.”

With a “Scream” TV series going into its second season this April on MTV, could the film series go on without Craven?

In 2010, as “Scream 4” was in development with Williamson writing once again, ideas were swirling for fifth and sixth films in the series. The potential of those concepts, however, never came to fruition. Now Williamson gently brushes away the idea of making another film.

“With Wes gone,” he muses, “do we need a ‘Scream 5’?

“The film is so beautiful where it is in my life. I don’t feel the need to go there again.”

June 27th 2015: SCREAM 5 NON EXISTENT for good ?!

scream5nohopewpYesterday the well known Horror site Bloody-Disgusting had a headline go up about the much talked about (Mostly between fans) SCREAM 5…. and it seems that TWC have no plans for it at all now, and plan to let the TV Series continue the legacy… If this is still the case in a year or so then its not good. Many fans online have expressed much interest in doing a fifth film but to no avail, many of them saying a ‘SCREAM 5’ instead of a TV Series was wanted not so long ago… it seems we got what most didn’t want when it comes to the fans.. FULL ARTICLE link on the banner! Info from BD below…

‘When unconfirmed news of Scream 5 hit the web back in May, we did some digging and discovered the disheartening news that there was absolutely no internal chatter of a sequel at Dimension’s headquarters.

Now, on the heels of the MTV series premiere (June 30th), Bob Weinstein, co-runner of the Weinstein Co., tells the WSJ that there will be no more Scream films. Ghostface’s legacy will live on through the new MTV series…’

The site quotes Weinstein as saying:

…there won’t be any more ‘Scream’ movies, and that MTV is the right place for the property to find its next life. It’s like putting an art-house movie in an art-house theater—where the teens reside is MTV.

January 12th 2015: SCREAM 5 Part 1 and 2!

s5p1and2wpHello again… Hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year… the New Year starts with what i think is a NEW Rumour! Over at ‘Moviepilot’ there are reports of SCREAM 5 being a two part film, they state how that in the past Wes Craven said he was down for SCREAM 5 and 6 if the fourth film did good enough, and we all know from Twitter info that Kevin Williamson has a SCREAM 5 ready… but it doesn’t sound like the version they have in mind to use.. Info from Moviepilot’s article below… Click banner for FULL Article! …. Me, well im not sure on this… the SCREAM films have always just stuck with progressing numbers in the titles, so why not just a 5 and 6.. ???

All right all of you Scream fans if you were exited about the upcoming MTV Scream series then you’ll be happy for this news. A recent rumors has leaked to the internet saying that a fifth and final Scream film is coming in 2016 and will be set in two parts with part two coming in 2017.

April 15th 2014: SCREAM 5 Dead?!

For a long time there has been the odd chatter about the SCREAM TV series, and even less chat about SCREAM 5, in recent time Neve Campbell appeared in TV series ‘Mad Men’ and recently answered questions from ‘The Daily Beast’ about it, in those questions SCREAM 5 was mentioned, as far as Neve is concerned, she thinks its DEAD at this time…

Part of the interview below.. Click HERE for full article! (Credit to Rodrigo of ‘HelloSidney.com’ for the article)

I grew up with a lot of your films, and movies like Scream still hold up so well. Have you ever received a bad prank phone call?

No, I haven’t! I haven’t, weirdly. I unfortunately had some stalkers during that time but no weird prank calls. Although Halloween is always fun because I’ll be at the door handing out candy and someone will come by in a Scream mask. It’s just an easy costume, now. I’ll just be Ghostface!

Are we going to see another Scream film?

I don’t think we’ll see it again. I know they’re doing a TV show for MTV that I just read about, but originally they’d talked about Scream 4 being the beginning of another trilogy, but once we made it, it was such a challenge to do a good job with it, give the audience what they wanted, have it be fresh, and have it still retain the elements from the older movies people loved so much. I think we did a good job with it, but I don’t know if you can do it again and again and again. We’d be pushing it. So I think they’re smart with just doing a TV show and leaving it alone.

October 2nd 2013: Small Scream 5 Update (UPDATED)

When it comes to news on Scream 5 it has been basically unheard of for a while, last thing i remember was seeing Kevin Williamson tweet about having a script completed yet nobody wanted it he said..
The latest we hear now is that Harvey Weinstein is pressing his brother Bob to get Scream 5 made so it can be ended once and for all, so cancel out all hopes for a second trilogy, there wont be a Scream 6!

Text below is from Indiewire.com – FULL ARTICLE here..

He’s urging his brother to make “Scream 5” happen.

Weinstein said that he’s urging his brother Bob, who heads Dimension Films, to make “Scream 5” happen. “Everyone lived in ‘Scream 4,” he said. “I’m begging him to do the movie and just end it. We’ve milked that cow.”

(UPDATED October 4th) From ok, to worse…

I was (as a Scream and Ghostface fan) willing to give a TV series at least a ‘Look-in’ when the time came for its debut on the small screens, but now a new recent development has popped up which just makes it too daft to believe or add into the series… It seems that a ‘Super Natrual’ element will exist in the show.. My God, what next?… the ONLY good thing is that it seems the films and series wont be directly linked or overlapped..

Bloody Disgusting have a report online HERE
(Rodrigo Kurtz of HelloSidney.com posted the news via twitter originally, thanks to him for alerting us all)

Weinstein told the Zurich Film Festival audience that there’s no overlap between the series and film franchise, adding that the series “is supposed to represent a new beginning and also pursue a supernatural direction.”

March 13th 2013: Wes has a chat..

Here we are again, in a similar position to a last year.. NOTHING on a SCREAM 5 and a Scream TV show mentioned again which is NOT what the majorority of fans want according to my poll on the forum.. anyway, Wes was recently at the SXSW film festival mainly for his comic book project with Steve Niles.. Whilst there he chatted with many including JoBlo.com… Click HERE for FULL article in which Scream 5 is mentioned.
News headline was alerted to me by R.Suttles whilst on Skype!

January 3rd 2013: Neve briefly mentions SCREAM 5!

It has been a while since SCREAM 5 has been in the immediate news and even this is still ‘small potatoes’ as we say… I saw an article linked via John Valeri on Facebook… Neve being interviewed about her appearance on Grey’s Anatomy’ , in the interview questions we see SCREAM 5 mentioned.. For FULL ARTICLE click banner!

Any chance of there being a Scream 5?

CAMPBELL: We’ll see. I’m not sure they’re going to make it, to be honest. If that were to come up again and they were to approach me, I’d have a chat with them about it.

March 1st 2012: Scream 5 wont be from Kevin Williamson it seems!

Well, finally something on Scream 5, only small and extremely brief because i saw HelloSidney.com just before writing this… so credit to Rodrigo’ over there really for adding the news first, Credit where its due.

So, whats the latest, well, at first we were all knowing that Kevin was on board for a fourth and fifth film originally, now it seems he isn’t on for a fifth.. i just hope he has given something for an idea to TWC so he has some sort of small influence on a future Scream movie.. The info came from an interview with AssignmentX.com that the following was revealed… FULL ARTICLE HERE
(I have no idea where ‘Generations’ came from).

AX: Can you say anything about SCREAM 5: GENERATIONS?

WILLIAMSON: I don’t know. I’m not doing it.

So, yet again, like with Scream 3, the fans dont get what they want in FULL at least.. As a webmaster and a fan of the films i dont know the full circumstances of why we are not getting Kevin back, we may never know the full truth, then again we may in a few years if some random site interviews him, but remember that the man is extremely busy these days, The Vampire Diaries, Secret Circle, and now he’s got Kevin Bacon as a main character in the new Serial killer drama to arrive in the near future.. something he has been wanting to do since SCREAM back in 1996.

All i can say is that without Williamson’s pen the Scream movies do lack some magic, Look at Scream 1 and 2, both MEGA, good earners, Scream 3 did good, and Scream 4 was very entertaining, i just wish we could have a FULL script off him like with the first two films. When it comes to writers this chap is sorely missed! He helped create what Scream movies became just like the GhostFace® mask and Wes and all cast and crew, with a little bit of magic gone in Williamson it IS noticed by us loyal fans.
