Why Ghostface?!

I've been thinking...... I know that Wes Craven approved the ghostface mask mainly because he liked it. But my question is. How and why do the killers use the ghostface mask? does it represent something in the plot, or does it actually mean something except for "the scream" painting... for example. Jason used the hockey mask mainly because he found it somewhere in the movie (part 3). and michael myers used his mask because he found it in a halloween store. now what about ghostface?!?!? Well Billy and Stu bought it from a random shop as Dewey stated they sell it in stores in every state, theres no way to track the purchase. Micky was a copy cat, and Roman was probably the orginal one who came up with using the mask, i don't know about 4 because we don't know who the killer is.

Wes Craven also had this to say on Twitter:

"The original Ghostface costume was actually white -- to resemble more of a ghost -- but the white looked silly. @mediabreach"

Thought that might add to this topic.

As others have pointed out...there are several reasons why the mask/costume ended up being what it is.

Mainly though, the simple answer is that Wes loved the mask and thought it was perfect. The script described the killer as wearing a ghost mask. But nothing else. Its been said that Wes asked Kevin "What else does the killer wear?" and Kevin didn;t have an answer and Wes explained that if the killer just wore a mask, then the audience would be able to tell who it was just by their clothing.

So they had to design a costume that completely covered the persons body.

Also the name of the costume in Scream 1 is "Father Death". Wes said that he chose this name as yet another red herring. The goal was to throw the audience off even more, by further pointing the finger at Sidneys father...."Father Death"....
